Dharamsala literally means “a spiritual dwelling” and in loose translation as a shelter or rest house for pilgrims and travelers…Dharamshala is a prominent name in Buddhist tours to the state, as the home of the Dalai Lama and all the Tibetans in exile. In 1860, the 66th Gurkha Light Infantry was moved from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh to Dharamshala, which was at first made a subsidiary cantonment.
