I am going to Ladakh with my family in July this year. Since we will be travelling by our private car, I wanted to know if it is possible to find Petrol filling stations easily or there are some designated places only?
When traveling in Ladakh, it’s important to be aware of the limited availability of petrol pumps in the region. Here are some places where you can find petrol pumps or options to get petrol/diesel in Ladakh:
1. Leh: Leh, the capital of Ladakh, has a few petrol pumps where you can refuel your vehicle. There are petrol pumps located in the main town area and along the Leh-Manali Highway.
2. Kargil: Kargil, another major town in Ladakh, also has petrol pumps available for refueling. It is situated on the Srinagar-Leh Highway.
3. Diskit and Hunder: These villages in the Nubra Valley region of Ladakh have petrol pumps where you can get fuel. They are the main settlements in the area and serve as a stopover for travelers heading to the famous Pangong Tso Lake.
4. Tso Moriri and Tso Kar: These high-altitude lakes in Ladakh have small fuel stations where you can obtain petrol or diesel. It’s essential to note that the availability of fuel may be limited, so it’s advisable to plan accordingly.
5. Changthang Region: In the remote Changthang region of Ladakh, petrol pumps are scarce. However, some villages like Hanle and Chumathang may have limited options for fuel, but it’s recommended to carry sufficient fuel reserves while traveling in this area.
It’s important to keep in mind that fuel stations can be spread apart, so it’s wise to plan your route and carry extra fuel in jerry cans or auxiliary tanks, especially if you’re exploring remote areas or embarking on long journeys. Additionally, consider the altitude and weather conditions, as they can impact fuel consumption. Always stay updated on the fuel situation and make necessary arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe journey in Ladakh.
